The Portable Antiquites Scheme
As a responsible detectorist I report my more significant finds to the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Doing this helps add to the rich tapestry of history that is being unearthed by the detecting community, which in turn helps build a picture of the lives and communities of those that lived before us. Below you can see some of the finds that I currently have listed on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database.

Dupondius of Trajan
A copper-alloy Roman Dupondius of Trajan (AD 98-117) dating to the priod AD 114-117 (Reece period 6).

Denarius of Octavian
A Roman silver denarius of Octavian dating to the period AD 32-29 BC (Reece period 1) possibly Brundisium mint.

Medieval French Jetton
A copper-alloy Medieval French Jetton dating to the period c. AD 1418-1437, a ‘Shield of France’ design type.

Southern Gaul Unit
A Southern Gaulish copper-alloy (bronze) unit dating tp the late 3rd or early 2nd centuries BC, c.250-150 BC.

Small Long Brooch
An incomplete cast copper-alloy early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) small long brooch dating to the period AD. 450-480.

Roman Bracelet
A fragment of roman cast copper-alloy wide-cuff penannular braclet or armlet dating to the first century AD.

Denarius of Elegabalus
An incomplete Roman debased sliver Denarius of Elegabalus (AD. 218-222) Dating to the period AD. 218-222.

Loop & Button Fastener
A complete late Iron Age to early Roman cast copper-alloy button & loop fastener dating to the period AD. 50-200.

Elizabethan Dress Hook
An incomplete Post Medieval silver gilt dress hook dating c. AD 1500-1600. Read’s Class D, type 6.

Denarius of Antoninus Pius
A sliver Roman denarius of Antoninus Pius (AD. 138-161) dating the the period AD. 141-161 (Reece period 7).

Nummus – House of Constantine
A Roman copper-alloy nummus of the House of Constantine (AD 307-361). This coin is a rarity known as a ‘brockage’ coin.

Roman Fibula Brooch
An incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester derivative, double pierced lug, Harlow type brooch dating to the period (c. AD 50-80).

Denarius of Faustina Sr
A sliver Roman denarius of Faustina Sr, the wife of Emperor Antoninus Pius (AD. 138-161) dating the the period AD. 141-161 (Reece period 7).

Elizabeth I Sixpence
A silver hammered sixpence of Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) dating exactly to the year 1579.

Medieval Harness Pendant
A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy enamelled harness pendant, decorated with rampant lion (c. AD 1300-1400).

Small Long Brooch
An incomplete cast copper-alloy early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) small long brooch dating to the period AD. 420-550.

Denarius of Hadrian
A Roman silver denarius of Hadrian (AD 117-138) dating AD 133-135. Reverse depicting Salus, the Roman Goddess for wellbeing and safety.

Radiate of Allectus
A Roman copper-alloy Radiate of Allectus (AD 295-296) dating to the period AD. 293-296 (Reece peroid 14).

Penny of Henry VII
A silver Medieval penny of Henry VII (1485-1509) dating 1489-1500. Sovereign type. Minted under Archbishop Rotherham in York.

Nuremberg Jetton
An incomplete late Medieval to Post Medieval copper-alloy Nuremberg jetton of anonymous ‘ship-penny’ type (c. AD 1490-1550).

Denarius of Hadrian
A Roman silver denarius of Hadrian (AD 117-138) dating AD 117-138 (Reece period 6). Reverse depicting Felicitas. Mint of Rome.

Commonwealth Half Groat
From the time of the British Civil War (1649-1660) a half-groat with the cross of St George and Irish harp in place of the Royal Arms.

Elizabeth I Threepence
A silver hammered threepence of Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) dating exactly to the year 1582.

Edward I Silver Penny
A silver hammered Penny of Edward I (1272-1307). The long cross design on the reverse was introduced to prevent coin clipping.

Iron Age unit of Tasciovanus
A worn copper-alloy unit of the North Thames Region / Catuvellauni, minted by Tasciovanus, dating to the period c. 25 BC to AD 10.

Dupondius of Marcus Aurelius
A bronze Dupondius of Marcus Aurelius (161-180AD). Marcus Aurelius was the last of the rulers later known as the Five Good Emperors.

Medieval Vessica Seal Matrix
A complete Medieval cast lead oval (or ‘vessica’) shaped seal matrix dating to the period c. AD 1200-1300.

Henry III Penny
A Medieval silver short cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272), Class 7b, dating 1222-1236. Moneyer Ioan. Canterbury Mint.

Nummus of Valentinian I
An incomplete Roman copper-alloy nummus of Valentinian I (AD 364-375) dating to the period AD 364-375 (Reece period 19).

Dupondius of Claudius I
A copper-alloy dupondius of Claudius I (AD 41-54), a contemporary copy, dating to the period c. AD 41-54.

Nummus of Constantine I
An incomplete copper-alloy Roman nummus of Constantine I (AD 306-337) dating to the period AD 322-323 (Reece period 16).

Cruciform Medieval Mount
An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, possibly a pin or mount, probably dating to the Medieval period, c. AD 1200-1400.

Lead Seal Matrix
A Medieval lead seal matrix dating c. AD 1200-1400. The face of the seal is decorated with incised decoration in the form of a cross

Half Groat of Charles I
An incomplete silver Post Medieval half groat of Charles I (AD 1625-1649) dating AD 1639-1640. Group D, inner circles. Tower mint.

Radiate of Salonina
A Roman copper-alloy radiate of Salonina dating to the period AD 260-268 (Reece Period 13). Mint of Rome. As Cunetio p. 119, no. 1324.

James I Shilling
A silver shilling of James I, King of England (1603-1625). Minted at the Tower of London 1607-1609 – ‘Coronet’ mint mark.

Radiate of Gallienus
A Roman copper-alloy radiate of Gallienus (AD 253-268), sole reign, dating to the period AD 260-268 (Reece period 13).

Roman Bridal Bit
An incomplete cast copper-alloy bridle bit, probably of Roman date, from the first to second century AD.

Roman Bow & Fantail Brooch
Roman bow and fantail brooch, c.AD 50 – 150. Mackreth 2011, Trumpet derivative, Hinged Type 4.1a, Plate 86, no.5589.

Medieval Drop Handle
A cast copper-alloy Medieval to Early Post Medieval drop handle with zoomorphic terminal (c. AD 1270-1600).

Henry V Halfpenny
A Medieval silver halfpenny of Henry V (AD 1413-1422) dating AD 1413-1422. Mint of London. As North 1991, no. 1409.

Anglo Saxon Brooch
An incomplete cast copper-alloy small-long brooch dating to the Early Medieval period (c. AD 450-550).

Medieval English Jetton
A copper-alloy Medieval English jetton dating c. AD 1300-1400. Obverse: voided cross fleuretty with border of pellets (Mernick 4m.12).

Nummus of Constantius II
An incomplete Roman copper-alloy nummus of Constantius II (AD 323-361) dating to circa AD 335-341 (Reece period 17).

As of Vespasian
A Roman copper-alloy as of Vespasian (AD 69-79) probably dating AD 71 (Reece period 4). Mint of Rome. Probably as RIC II 487.

Two conjoining fragments of a Roman cast copper-alloy wide-cuff penannular bracelet dating to the first century AD.

A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy heraldic shield shaped mount dating c. AD 1250-1450.

William III Sixpence
A worn silver sixpence of William III (1689-1702). Struck as part of the Great Recoinage of 1696-97, this coin was minted in Exeter 1697.

Roman Aucissa Brooch
An incomplete Roman cast copper-alloy Aucissa brooch dating to the period c. AD 43 – 75, of Mackreth (2011) AVCISSA 2.b.

Commonwealth Silver Penny

Tasciovanos Silver Unit
An incomplete silver unit of the of the North Thames region / Catuvellauni dating to the period c.20 BC to AD 10.

Tasciovanos Verlamio Unit
A copper-alloy Iron Age unit of the North Thames Region / Catuvellauni, dating to the period c.25 BC-AD 10.

Gold ‘Gypsy’ Ring
A gold ‘Gypsy’ ring made in Birmingham in 1897. The ring is comprised of 18ct gold, inset with a diamond and two rubies.

Buckle with Integral Plate
Dating c. 13th – 14th centuries, these buckles were riveted directly onto a strap and were know to be used as spur buckles.
